deSha's LEXINGTON

Bars are often the first port of call for a whisky enthusiast visiting a new destination. As the competition in this category was so tough, and the voting left nothing between three entrants we decided to call a dead heat between the winners.

The short list was drawn up from the Supreme Bars taken from Whisky Magazine’s Whisky Bar, Restaurant and Hotel programme. All three Icon winners have great whisky ranges and a passion to educate the consummer.

deSha's Restaurant is located on the northwest corner of Main and Broadway, two streets that are as important today as they were when Lexington was laid out in 1780.

On this northwest corner of the intersection stood the

first Fayette County Courthouse, with a hut for a jail alongside. The present structure that houses deSha's was constructed for use as a commercial structure in the late 1870's when citizens of Lexington were prospering and trade was lively. Since that time, the building has served as a grocery store, general store, basket factory and, most recently, a furniture store.

The corner and the whole Victorian block has the same profile and charm as it did then, including many of its Victorian embellishments. A vibrant, life-sized mural by local artist Steve Sawyer is located near our second floor entrance. It, as well as many

photographs throughout the restaurant, serves as colorful reminders of the bygone era. The antique bar on the ground floor was built at the turn of the century and has stood at several local establishments. It was moved to this location and refurbished for deSha's opening in 1985.

Since opening, deSha's has continued to grow and expand while maintaining its quaint Victorian charm. In order to accommodate a growing number of requests for large parties, the restaurant constructed a private room and remodeled three existing dining rooms to accommodate parties from 20 to 100. Each room possesses its own unique atmosphere, perfect for any occasion.
